{"id":956,"date":"2023-02-01T13:38:21","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T18:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/atcomponent.com\/?p=956"},"modified":"2023-02-01T13:38:21","modified_gmt":"2023-02-01T18:38:21","slug":"rally-for-strong-anti-scab-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atcomponent.com\/en\/2023\/02\/01\/rally-for-strong-anti-scab-legislation\/","title":{"rendered":"Rally for strong anti-scab legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On\u00a0<strong>January 31st<\/strong>, CUPE is organizing a protest in front of the Parliament hill in Ottawa in support of a bill to\u00a0<strong>limit the use of scabs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A law banning the use of temporary replacement workers has existed in Quebec since 1978 and in British Columbia since 1993.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the laws of Quebec and British Columbia,\u00a0<strong>companies under federal jurisdiction (e.g. airlines, communications, etc.) can use scabs!\u00a0<\/strong>The same applies to our brothers and sisters in Ontario: the province\u00a0gained anti-scab legislation in 1993, when the NDP was in government, but it was clawed back in 1996 when the Mike Harris Conservatives gutted the province\u2019s Labour Relations Act.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the support of our colleagues at Vid\u00e9otron,\u00a0<strong>free transportation is being offered between Montreal and Ottawa on the day of this protest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in participating and supporting this important cause to protect our right to strike.
