Right to refuse dangerous work<\/strong><\/p>\n

A right to refuse was exercised recently and the procedure as defined in the Labour Code was not followed by IFS.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Your union has filed a complaint to Transport Canada. We are in communication with TC inspectors to ensure that the Labour Code is respected and that our members’ rights are not violated.\u00a0Our members were entitled to exercise their right to refuse.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Component fully supports all CAs who were directly involved in this right to refuse<\/strong><\/p>\n

In occupational health and safety, a right to refuse is one of the fundamental rights of our members under Part II of the Canada Labour Code.<\/p>\n

The health and safety of our members is an issue on which we will never compromise.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nExercising the right to refuse<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

“The employee must also inform the employer of his or her intention to avail himself or herself of the provisions of the Code or the collective agreement, where applicable, to deal with the refusal. The employee’s decision is irrevocable, unless the employee and the employer agree to change it.”<\/em><\/p>\n
